પરિચય

કાળો કોશી (Dicrurus macrocercus) એ એશિયામાં જોવા મળતું એક નાનું અને અત્યંત ચપળ પક્ષી છે. તે તેની લાંબી અને બે ભાગમાં વહેંચાયેલી પૂંછડી માટે પ્રખ્યાત છે. તે સમગ્ર એશિયામાં, ખાસ કરીને ભારત, શ્રીલંકા અને દક્ષિણ ચીનમાં વ્યાપકપણે જોવા મળે છે.

શારીરિક દેખાવ

કાળો કોશી આશરે ૨૮ સેમી લંબાઈ ધરાવે છે. આ પક્ષીનો રંગ ચમકદાર કાળો હોય છે. તેની સૌથી મોટી ઓળખ તેની લાંબી અને છેડેથી બે ભાગમાં વહેંચાયેલી (Forked) પૂંછડી છે. પુખ્ત પક્ષીઓની આંખો ઘેરી બદામી હોય છે. નર અને માદા પક્ષીઓ દેખાવમાં એકસરખા હોય છે, જ્યારે બચ્ચાં થોડા ભૂખરા રંગના હોય છે.

રહેઠાણ

આ પક્ષી સામાન્ય રીતે ખુલ્લા વિસ્તારો, ખેતરો, પાંખા જંગલો અને માનવ વસાહતોની નજીક જોવા મળે છે. તે દરિયાઈ સપાટીથી ૨૦૦૦ મીટરની ઊંચાઈ સુધી વસવાટ કરી શકે છે. તે ઘણીવાર ખેતરોમાં વીજળીના તાર અથવા ઝાડની સૂકી ડાળીઓ પર બેઠેલું જોવા મળે છે.

આહાર

કાળો કોશી મુખ્યત્વે જીવજંતુઓ ખાય છે, જેમાં કીડીઓ, ઉધઈ, તીડ, ભમરા, પતંગિયા અને ફૂદાંનો સમાવેશ થાય છે. આ ઉપરાંત, તે ક્યારેક નાના સરીસૃપ, પક્ષીઓ અને ચામાચીડિયાનો પણ શિકાર કરે છે. તે ફૂલોનો રસ પણ પીવે છે, જે કુદરતમાં પરાગનયનની પ્રક્રિયામાં મદદરૂપ થાય છે.
